Scan Reader provides online OCR and document text extraction tools for images, PDFs, screenshots, scanned documents, document photos, printed text, and handwritten pages. The Service may help you extract, copy, edit, download, or export recognized text from uploaded files.

The Service may support different input types and output formats depending on the feature being used. Available features, file limits, supported formats, processing behavior, and output options may change over time.

Scan Reader is intended to assist with document processing and text recognition. It is not a substitute for professional review, manual verification, or specialized document analysis where accuracy is important.

3. User Responsibilities

You agree that:

  • You own or have the necessary rights and permissions to upload, process, and use the content you submit to the Service.
  • You will not upload content that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, defamatory, infringing, invasive of privacy, or otherwise violates applicable laws or third-party rights.
  • You will not use the Service to process content in a way that violates confidentiality obligations, intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or other legal duties.
  • You are responsible for reviewing, verifying, and correcting any OCR output before relying on it or sharing it with others.
  • You will not misuse the Service, attempt to bypass limits, interfere with the Service's operation, or gain unauthorized access to any system, account, data, or network.

4. Prohibited Uses

You may not use the Service to:

  • Upload or process content that you do not have the right to use.
  • Violate any applicable law, regulation, contract, or third-party right.
  • Extract or process personal data, confidential information, or sensitive records without proper authorization.
  • Reverse engineer, scrape, overload, disrupt, or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure.
  • Use automated systems, bots, or scripts to abuse the Service or bypass usage restrictions.
  • Use the Service to create, support, or distribute fraudulent, deceptive, harmful, or illegal materials.

5. Uploaded Content

You retain all rights to the files, images, documents, and other content you upload to the Service. You grant Scan Reader a limited license to process your uploaded content solely for the purpose of providing, maintaining, securing, and improving the Service.

You are responsible for keeping your own copies of any uploaded files and generated outputs. We do not guarantee that uploaded content, OCR results, or processed files will remain available.

We may remove or restrict access to content if we believe it violates these Terms, creates risk for the Service, or is required by law.

6. Usage Limits and Availability

Usage limits may apply, including limits on file size, file type, number of pages, number of requests, processing time, or available features. These limits may change at any time.

We may modify, suspend, restrict, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, including specific OCR tools, supported formats, processing models, or output options.

We do not guarantee that the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

7. OCR Accuracy and Output

OCR and document extraction results may vary depending on image quality, file format, scan clarity, lighting, layout, language, handwriting style, text size, page condition, and other factors.

The Service may produce errors, omissions, formatting issues, incorrect words, incorrect line breaks, or incomplete extraction. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, readability, formatting, or suitability of any output generated by the Service.

You are responsible for reviewing and verifying all OCR results before using them for any personal, academic, professional, legal, financial, medical, or official purpose.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, website design, software, text, graphics, logos, interface elements, and related materials are owned by Scan Reader, scanreader.org, or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, sell, lease, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from the Service or its content except as permitted by law or with our prior written permission.

These Terms do not transfer ownership of your uploaded content to Scan Reader.

9. Third-Party Services

The Service may rely on third-party infrastructure, hosting, analytics, storage, OCR, AI, or security providers. Your use of the Service may involve processing by such providers as needed to operate the Service.

We are not responsible for third-party websites, services, or resources that may be linked from or integrated with the Service.

10. Disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, and reliability.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Scan Reader and scanreader.org shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, content, profits, goodwill, or business opportunities arising from or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Scan Reader, scanreader.org, and its operators from any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, costs, or expenses arising from your use of the Service, your uploaded content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

13. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted means that you accept the updated Terms.
